Hello, I’m Christopher Llewellyn, a landscape photographer from Bridgend, South Wales, UK. My work explores the politics of landscapes, from the environmental to the aesthetic, examining how people shape and use the land, ownership, beauty, and the sublime.
I studied photography as a mature student at Cardiff School of Art and Design, graduating with first-class honours in photographic practice from Cardiff Metropolitan University. I now work full-time in the IT sector, but I pursue my photographic projects in my spare time, using both digital and traditional film equipment in medium and large format.
I use photography as a medium to explore the complex relationship between people and the land. I believe that landscapes are not simply passive backdrops, but rather active participants in our lives. They can be shaped by our actions and they can also shape our thoughts and feelings.
My work often explores the ways in which landscapes are constructed and consumed. I’m interested in how photography is used to create and maintain our view of the natural world, as well as how these images can influence our perceptions of the environment. I’m also interested in the relationship between landscape photography and tourism, including the ways in which tourism can impact the landscapes that it represents.
I hope that my work will encourage you the viewer to think more critically about the landscapes around them. I’d like people to see landscapes not just as beautiful scenes, but also as complex social and political spaces.
